A psychologist’s website is not just any website. Whoever visits it is often taking their hardest first step — and your professional board has precise rules on how you may present yourself. Here is the checklist of what really matters, in order of importance.
1. A tone that puts people at ease
People seeking help do not want a psychology textbook nor a corporate brochure. They want to understand, in a few lines: who you are, how you work, whether they can trust you. Clinical jargon pushes people away; salesman phrases (“book NOW!”) even more. The right tone is warm, clear and sober — and it is the hardest thing to get right.
2. The board’s rules, respected
Healthcare advertising in Italy has clear boundaries: truthful information, no promises of healing, transparency on titles and registration. In practice: write what you do and how, not “guaranteed results”. A website made by someone who ignores these rules can embarrass you with your board — and it happens.
3. Privacy done properly
In your profession confidentiality is not a legal detail, it is the heart of the relationship. The website needs a serious privacy policy, contact forms that treat data with care, and — if you collect appointment requests — the right consents in the right places.
4. A simple way to take the first step
This is where it is won or lost. If contacting you requires hunting for an email at the bottom of the page, many give up. What works: a simple form (“what is your name, how do you prefer to be contacted”), a clickable phone number, and — if you wish — online booking of the first session with your real availability. Not everything is needed: at least one path must be evident and easy.
5. Your areas of work, explained simply
“Mood disorders” says little to someone suffering. “I help people who feel constantly tired, anxious or stuck” says everything. Every area you work in deserves two lines written for the reader, not for colleagues.
6. Getting found by people searching in your area
Most patients still arrive from Google, searching things like “psychologist + city” or “anxiety + psychotherapy”. The website must be built so Google understands it — proper titles, real copy, speed — otherwise it is a beautiful practice with no sign outside.
We have already built these websites, for psychologists and psychotherapists across Italy — with online booking, tone refined together and the board respected. You find real examples and every answer on the dedicated page.
